Nothing beats a good Sunday roast dinner, it’s one of the best home-cooked meals that you can only dream about whilst at university – sigh.
Let’s be honest, there’s no dinner that compares to your Mum’s cooking but, we’re sure this food guide will help you find the best places to get a Sunday roast in the cathedral city of Bangor.
They might not taste exactly like the home comforts you’re used to, but these 8 restaurants are bound to be strong contenders!
Now, who does the best roasties…
1. Antelope Inn
First on our list of the best places to scran a Sunday roast in Bangor is Antelope Inn.
You’ll find this Sizzling pub on the edge of the Menai Straits with views of the Menai Bridge, despite being a bit far out of town, it’s worth it!
Every Sunday roasts are served from 12pm-8pm so no matter if you’re fancying a cheeky roast at lunchtime or a nice dinner to fill you up in the evening, this pub-grub has you sorted.
They offer a variety of meats including hand-carved beef, chicken breast and a vegetarian root vegetable and walnut wellington.
All meals are served with crispy roast potatoes, honey-roasted parsnips, mash, vegetables, gravy and a Yorkshire pudding – mm!
You can also add on some extras like pigs in blankets if you really want to push the boat out.
Prices are super cheap too with all the roast dinners costing less than a tenner, we’d say that’s student friendly!

2. Tap & Spile
Now onto The Tap & Spile, an award-winning Cask Ale Pub located next to Bangor Pier with stunning beach views.
You can walk about a ten-minute walk from Bangor University campus and stumble into this quirky place to scoff a banging Sunday roast dinner.
Prices start from £9.95 depending on your choice of meats from roast beef, chicken, pulled shoulder of Welsh lamb or Glamorgan vegetarian sausages. Meals are served with seasonal vegetables, roasties, homemade Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
If you’re still hungry after your roast (how?!) then they serve home-made sticky toffee pudding which is big with the locals. We don’t know about you, but we’re keen to try this one.

3. Y Ranch
When it comes to a Sunday roast in Bangor, Y Ranch really know how to do it.
You’ll find this pub situated on High Street, less than a 10-minute walk from Bangor Train Station.
Their carvery is available between 12pm-5pm every Sunday at just £9.95, you can pick from chicken, beef or vegetarian with traditional roast accompaniments like mash, roasties, stuffing, broccoli, carrots, parsnips and obviously gravy.
Like a typical carvery, it’s up to you what you want on your plate so you can pick whatever tickles your fancy! If you’re hungover and craving some good home-cooked food, this place is a MUST. Trust us, it’s foodie heaven.

4. The Harp Inn
The Harp Inn, one of Bangor’s oldest pubs and an iconic drinking spot for locals and students alike. However, they also do a superb roast dinner which you really have to try.
They serve a Sunday Carvery from 12pm-6pm with the choice of Beef, Turkey, Pork and a vegetarian option all available. You’ll get a good range of mixed vegetables and all your usual yorkies, stuffing and roasties.
It’s only £8.45 for a standard plate and they even do a 10% student discount if you bring along a valid ID. For this great value, you’ve gotta try it!

5. Voltaire
If you’re a vegan student searching for the best place to get a roast dinner in Bangor, Voltaire just answered your prayers.
You’ll find this 100% vegan restaurant on Garth Road nearby to the seafront so, it’s super easy to find and won’t require too much of a mooch. All their food is cooked fresh, and they offer gluten free options too!
There’s a choice of either v-beef, v-chicken or nut roast accompanied by 10 different vegetables, how yummy do they sound?!

6. Parc Britannia
Parc Britannia is great place to sit down and nom on a roast dinner with your friends. This cosy pub is located not far from Treborth Botanic Garden and does a delicious Sunday dinner.
Their menu is super varied with choices including hand-carved roast beef, succulent turkey, hand-carved gammon and their plant-based chicken breast roast.
Depending on your meat the price will be different, but you’re looking at less than £10.
Each plate is served with crispy roast potatoes, golden Yorkshires, honey-roasted parsnips, root vegetable mash, garden peas, carrots, savoy cabbage, stuffing and our signature rich red wine gravy (veggie gravy is also available).
To top things off, you can add pigs in blankets or cauliflower cheese for a little bit extra – we wouldn’t say no!

7. Belle Vue Hotel
Belle Vue Hotel is a friendly pub in Upper Bangor which serves up some mighty good dinner on a Sunday, and the best atmosphere!
Options for their Sunday lunch include a topside of beef, British roast pork, roast chicken breast or a country vegetable bake for any veggies.
The best part is, you can eat in or get it to takeaway if you’d rather go home and enjoy your food whilst watching some telly (it’s what Sundays are for).
It’s £8.50 for one course but they also do 2 courses for £12 or 3 courses for £15 – depending on how much you can eat!

8. The Ava Winebar
Lastly within our guide of where to get a Sunday roast in Bangor is The Ava Winebar on Main Street.
Their menu is everchanging but currently their Sunday menu is £17.95 for two courses with 3 starters to choose from and two roast dinners to pick between.
First, they offer a slow roast silverside of beef with duck fat roasties, Yorkshire pudding and braising liquor.
They also have a honey baked ham with mustard glaze with creamy pomme puree, roast potatoes and pan juices – mmm tasty!
Whilst their prices are a bit higher than others on our list, you pay for what you get, and at this tapas restaurant you’re getting a lot.
They’re open 12:00-7:30pm for food and they even have traditional live music playing to get the good vibes flowing.
