If you’re on the hunt for a cool vegan café to go for a nice bite to eat after being at uni or out and about in the city centre, Vegano is a top choice of ours. Located on Blandford Square, this café is 100% plant-based and offers a huuuge range of Italian inspired dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner inside their minimalist café. Our go-to order is the White Truffle Pizza with seasonal mushrooms, garlic, basil and smoked mozzarella. It’s gotta be accompanied with a side of sweet chilli fries, topped with hoisin, salsa and peanuts! If you’re just after somewhere to go for a coffee and a cake, they offer gorgeous treats like their house made Vegan Tiramisu – mmm. The stunning food, upbeat music, great atmosphere and the convenient location makes this place well worth a visit, no matter if you’re vegan or not.

3. Karma Kitchen

We don’t know about you, but we’re always in the mood for a tasty curry. When it comes to delicious plant-based curries, you won’t find better than at Karma Kitchen (at least in Newcastle anyway). Serving up North Indian food, you’ll find this family-run restaurant inside Newcastle’s Bigg Market. We urge you to try their Chilli Paneer with tangy Indo Chinese sauce, stir fried peppers and onions, garnished with a sprinkle of fresh coriander. Not hitting the spot? Try their South Indian Kattal Curry containing jackfruit in a spicy South Indian style curry sauce with onions and peppers. They even offer loads of gluten free options too. 4. Earthlings – The Healing Café

Earthlings, The Healing Café is situated just outside of the city centre on Buckingham Street and is well worth taking a little stroll and seeing what it’s all about. They pride themselves on offering a healing menu with smoothies, cold press juices, signature coffees and special lattes to fuel you up for the day ahead. Our favourite is their Vibrant Green with apples, celery, cucumber, ginger, lime, pineapple, spirulina and spinach. Don’t worry, they also offer some delicious food like their plant-based open burrito with rice, lentils, mushrooms, potatoes, peppers, beansprout, spinach and Home-made chickpea Sauce. We didn’t even tell you the best part, they’re only £2.99 - erm, give us some of that! This place is open from 9am-6pm Monday-Friday, which is more than ideal for your student schedule, eh? Grab a bite to eat, have a chit-chat or just sit and relax with a nice drink, this place really does offer the feel-good vibes.

5. The Ship Innn

Where can you find some of the best vegan pub grub? Well, it’s gotta be at The Shipp Inn. Located in the creative quarter of Ouseburn, this place offers a completely vegan food menu with a range of plates that everyone will love. You can choose from roast dinners to burgers to kebabs to mac n cheese to fish n chips. Yep, that’s right, vegan fish and chips - wow! If we’re being honest, all their dishes are truly mouth-watering even if you’re a meat eater, they’re full of flavour, super filling and great value for money. However, the top place for comfort food must be the dirty donna kebab on a fresh baked flatbread with crisp salad, sweet pickled red cabbage, garlic mayo, hot chilli sauce and pickled chilli. The warm and relaxing atmosphere make’s eating out at this place a firm-favourite of ours. Plus, they’re featured amongst the Ouseburn pub crawl if you fancy a challenge and some great food to sober you up!

6. SnackWallah

Authentic Indian Street food is one of the best scrans you can get, and we won’t hear otherwise. SnackWallah is the place to be for curries, chaat dishes, bhaji wraps, pakora plates and so many other fresh and great-tasting plates. You’ll find this place situated inside Grainger Market in the heart of the city centre. Wth food served from 11:30am until 4:30pm throughout the week, it makes for the perfect pit-stop if you’re out in town. Our go-to order is their Curry Banquet with the curry of the day served with rice and daal, two pieces of naan, two samosas, two pakoras and a mixture of chutneys. You can get all of that for just £10 too which is such good value for money! Venture out from your student flat and see what this vegan heaven is all about.

7. The Carriage

The Carriage is a pub located in the heart of Jesmond, which was once a Victorian railway station. These days, this cosy venue serves up plenty of vegan meals you must try whilst living and studying in the city. They offer everything from Sunday dinners to cheesy nachos to small plates to hearty burgers to mouth-watering desserts. We recommend giving their Carriage Burger a try with a plant-based beef patty, vegan cheese crisp lettuce, gherkin, red onion and mayo. If you’re after a nice warming meal to cosy up and scran during the Autumn months, give their soup of the day with baked bread a try. If you’re searching for vegan restaurants in Newcastle which are open until late, this place is open from 12:00pm until 11pm everyday of the week, and 12pm on weekends. Whilst the kitchen might not stay open until then, you can enjoy some great-tasting food and then have a few bevvies with friends!

Okay, we know Pizza Punks isn’t completely vegan, but they do offer tons of plant-based dishes so we simply couldn’t leave them out of our guide. Located on the bustling Grey Street, this vibrant restaurant offers sourdough pizzas, fresh pasta and craft cocktails. Neapolitan pizzas are the signature dish here in case you didn’t already guess. You can pick from an array of different toppings and make a delicious vegan pizza with your choice of sauce too. We’re talking about the likes of vegan mozzarella, BBQ pulled jackfruit, Nduja, pepperoni and Tuscan sausage. You can choose as many toppings as you like, and it won’t cost any extra – why not create your own perfect slice?
